SheKnows: Ethical Non-Monogamy
In August 2020, Respark’s founder and director Heather McPherson, LPC-S, LMFT-S, CST was mentioned in a She Knows article on ethical non-monogamy. This article describes that ethical non-monogamy is any consensual relationship that involves more than two people, whether that be inside or outside of the relationship. Ethical non-monogamy is seemingly growing to be a more popular way of being in a relationship, and many people have so many questions!
In this article, Heather discusses and expands on a few ways to become more educated on this topic. She recommends reading ‘how-to’ books ( like the Ethical Slut and Opening Up) and listening to podcasts (like Dan Savage and Orgy Story) about open relationships.” Most importantly, Heather always recommends finding a therapist that has a certification in consensual non-monogamy or has had advanced training in non-monogamy relationship structures, that can guide you through and answer your most pressing questions.
Heather also explains that people involved in ethical non-monogamous relationships should expect to work on your relationship and communication twice as much as you would have before.
