Therapy for Infidelity and Affairs
A valuable portion of sex therapy and couples sex therapy is the conversation about sexual exploration in the relationship and negotiating changes. Improving communication is a critical first step for many couples and in Respark’s Therapy for Infidelity and Affairs, you will practice the skills to talk about issues in a productive way–all to spark hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. Working through an affair requires tremendous work, openness, and vulnerability on all parties–those who participated in the affair and those who feel affected by the affair. Please note that the truth might not come out all at once. This can be a painful process; one that can bring fear and doubt, uncertainty, and potential shame, all of which you and your Respark therapist will work to reduce. Understanding how to address what happened and how to grow through the event can take time.
Mismatched Desire in Sex Therapy
Mismatched desire in sex therapy is for those who want sex more often than their partner(s), those who want sex less often than their partner(s), those who have experienced a change in libido and usual arousal, low desire with a high desire partner and those feeling a sudden total lack of sexual arousal or desire. When you start sex therapy for mismatched desire or desire discrepancy, it is your time to discover and voice boundaries you might not have needed earlier in life, that have changed over time and through relationships, and personal desires and needs when it comes to sexual interactions. Our highly-trained professionals discuss the conflict in arousal issues all the time, so know you are not alone.
Sex Therapy for mismatched desire or low desire is for those struggling with any arousal issues, desire discrepancy, or libido problems. Remember, there is no “normal” when it comes to sexuality, so stop trying to measure it. Meet your desire discrepancy with compassion and understanding.
Couple's Sex-Positive Therapy and Religion
Religion is one of the most common reasons couples seek out sex therapy. While our faith is important to many of us, it can instill elements of shame and fear when it comes to sexuality. Seeking out sex-positive therapy can help to chip away at preconceived ideas around sex that our religion has taught us. This can give you a sense of freedom within your sex life and over time allow you to no longer look at sex in a shameful or negative light. Your sessions with a couples sex-positive Respark therapist will focus on sexual exploration, reducing shame from previous stigmas, and encouragement of new practices, desires, and fantasies. Respark’s therapists have taken additional classes on sexuality and received supervised training in sex therapy. Our sex-positive therapists are unconditionally accepting and welcome all potential clients, no matter your relationship style or religion.
Sex Therapy
Sex therapy is for all adults: couples, partners, families, and individuals. Cultural taboos, stigmas, shyness, embarrassment, or shame about sex affect the way people view and judge their own sex life. Sex therapy refers to specialized skills and specific treatment approaches to sexuality issues, problems, and relationship issues. These can involve questions about sexual orientation/identity, gender identity, or sexual/relationship preferences including monogamous, polyamorous, and open relationships. Sometimes physical difficulties prevent or diminish sexual pleasure while other times it can be sexual communication and intimacy that is the root of the problem. In general, sex therapy works to help you clarify, set goals, and resolve sexual questions or difficulties which affect you and/or your relationships.
"Sex Addiction" Therapy
“Sex addiction” or Problem Sexual Behavior, includes feeling out of control about your sexual behaviors. During “Sex addiction” therapy, we will examine you as a whole person which includes your family, religion, society, and cultural context. For many clients, “sex addiction” or as we call it, Problem Sexual Behavior or Out of Control Sexual Behavior, can be the result of a moral or religious conflict. For others, shame may greatly affect how one feels about their sexual behavior. "Sex Addiction" therapy is for someone that struggles with their sexual thoughts, choices, or behaviors–individuals who feel out of control or hopeless because of their sexual behaviors. ReSpark’s therapy takes a strengths-based and compassionate approach to treating sexual acts or behaviors that are considered problematic. We utilize the Out of Control Sexual Behavior model, which serves as a non-shaming and sex-positive approach to working with problem sexual behaviors.
Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction
Erection issues span a wide range of experiences from being unable to keep an erection firm for sexual intercourse to premature or delayed ejaculation. Regardless of which issue you may be experiencing, the outcome can still prove frustrating and demoralizing. First know that any form of erectile dysfunction is not only very common, but usually treatable.
In a session with a Respark therapist, you can offer compassion and discretion when discussing these topics. We even offer online therapy so you do not have to come into the office. Your therapy journey with Respark does not need to be long-term, in fact, some clients may find help in just one visit. Therapy for erectile dysfunction can help you navigate the emotional and potential relationship issues that may arise from your dysfunction.
Individual Therapy
Respark’s individual therapy is talk-therapy centered and available either online or in-person for those in Colorado and Texas. During general therapy sessions, you have the opportunity to discuss your life, what seems to be affecting you negatively and, conversely, what positively affects you and how to encourage more joy. When you attend therapy with a Respark therapist, your sessions are spaces to discuss anything and everything, including your sexuality. As a team, you and your Respark therapist will work towards improving and strengthening communication skills that enhance your intimacy and how to communicate your desires, both in and out of the bedroom. We believe being able to properly express your desires, while also understanding your partner’s or partners’ sexual identity and desires can be transcendent for your relationships.
Individual Sex-Positive Therapy
Sex-positive therapy for individuals is a subset of individual therapy that focuses on sexual exploration and sex-positivity all with zero judgment of desires, practices, and fantasies. Respark’s therapists have not only taken additional classes on sexuality and received supervised training in sex therapy, but have already explored their sexual attitudes, biases, and beliefs. Our sex-positive therapists are unconditionally accepting and welcome all potential clients, no matter your relationship style. As a team, you and your Respark therapist will work towards improving and strengthening communication skills that enhance your intimacy and how to communicate your desires, both in and out of the bedroom. We believe being able to openly express your desires, while also understanding your partner’s or partners’ sexual identity and desires can be transcendent for your relationships.
Therapy for Eating Disorders
Respark’s Therapy for Eating Disorders is relapse prevention-based therapy and focuses on assisting and supporting clients while they learn and practice the skills necessary to remain healthy and recovery-focused. Therapy for all bodies, minds, and spirits – celebrating body diversity and experience treating special populations (athletes; mid-life and beyond; individuals who identify as part of the disabled community; LGBTQIA+; all sex, gender, race, religion inclusive). Therapy modalities are person-centered and recovery-centered and may include the utilization of proven, effective techniques. Eating Disorders (including, but not limited to, Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, “Orthorexia”, OSFED) are serious mental illnesses that are symptomatically described by extreme concerns about body weight, body shape, eating/diet, and body image which can lead to patterns of disordered eating and utilization of unhealthy behaviors.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy is working with a therapist who is empathetic to your feelings, understands your story, and encourages growth through your trauma. Trauma may affect your daily life and relationships. Whether you experienced something traumatic yesterday or decades ago, it is common to feel cornered by your trauma. Perhaps you don’t know where to start to heal or how to process the events that happened to you.
At Respark, we understand that remembering the event can often feel as bad as experiencing it and how new experiences can trigger similar distressing reactions. Because of this barrier, traumatic experiences can remain unresolved and cause ongoing disruptions in various aspects of your life, including how you feel about yourself, how you see the world, and how you relate to others, all of which Respark’s therapists are here to assist with.
Body Image Therapy
Body image–the way we interact with and feel about our body–affects many aspects of our daily lives, including how we engage with our sexuality. Because our society normalizes many unhealthy habits like negative body talk and unrealistic expectations, it is no mystery as to why many struggles with their body confidence. During your body image therapy sessions with a Respark therapist, you will chart a journey to radical self-acceptance. We will work together to untangle the web of lies our society has placed on our bodies, especially on women and queer bodies. The process to transition genders can include intense, negative thoughts and emotions towards your body; you may even experience symptoms of Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) where your daily life is severely affected.
Polyamory Therapy
A polyamorous relationship is typically defined as an open style relationship, where all partners involved consensually agree to multiple romantic and/or sexual relationships with other partners. The main difference between polyamory and open relationships is that polyamory can consist of loving multiple people and having intimate, loving relationships with more than one partner. Just like open relationships, some people think that being polyamorous must mean you never experience jealousy or infidelity. And just like open relationships, jealousy and infidelity can definitely occur in polyamorous relationships if agreements are broken.
Respark’s Polyamory therapy is an inviting, safe space to discuss your relationship diversity. Whether you’re looking for continued support from someone who understands and celebrates your poly relationships, or if you’re curious but hesitant to explore this new lifestyle, Respark is here to start healthy and productive conversations about polyamory and setting your poly journey up for success.
Therapy for Swingers
Swinging, sometimes referred to as consensual non-monogamy or ethical non-monogamy, can be a source of excitement and adventure in your relationship, but it can also bring up pain, hurt, and confusion. This is where your Respark therapist comes in. Our therapists have obtained advanced training from the world’s experts in swinging and open relationships, among other aspects of relationship and sexual diversity, and are ready to answer any questions you may have and talk through any scenarios, both good and bad. For some, swinging is simply not for them, while others find relief from this relationship style that fits their need for exploration and novelty. Respark’s therapists have received detailed training on relationship diversity and are here to help guide you into, out of, or through an open relationship. These situations can be a huge change that is sometimes very painful and/or takes some work to sort out what's ok and what's not.
Therapy for Open Relationships
Open relationships, also known as ethical non-monogamy, can be a huge source of love, joy, and excitement for individuals and couples, though at times these relationships can result in painful experiences and hurt relationships. This is where Respark’s Therapy for Open Relationships comes in. Though many people have successful open relationships, this relationship dynamic is still stigmatized, lacks positive role models, and may be difficult to navigate. Respark’s therapists have received detailed training on relationship diversity and are here to help guide you into, out of, or through an open relationship. These situations can be a huge change that is sometimes very painful and/or takes some work to sort out what's ok and what's not. Therapy for couples and individuals already in an opening relationship or thinking about opening up can be helpful in identifying potential pitfalls and preventing pain down the road.
Kink Therapy

Respark couples and sex therapists are highly trained in kink, BDSM, and kinky relationships. many have additional certifications and advanced training on the research and typical concerns. During your Respark therapy sessions, we can discuss your relationship to kink, but also everything else! Research shows that telehealth sessions are an equally effective form of therapy. Our therapists are experienced with telehealth and would be happy to discuss their flexible schedules and how to ensure your comfort and privacy. We can adapt to any platform you prefer (FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, etc.), as well as phone sessions. FaceTime recently updated its standards to be HIPAA compliant. You can expect a secure and safe environment from your therapist’s end, and they will send you a link to your virtual meeting room based on the platform that feels most comfortable for you.
Through our online platform doxy.me, video sessions are HIPAA compliant, and we can adapt to any platform you prefer (FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, etc.), as well as phone sessions. FaceTime recently updated its standards to be HIPAA compliant. As mentioned above, we also recommend playing background noise (e.g., music, a fan, or a TV) if others are in your space.
We recommend approaching counseling with an open mind while understanding that therapy is deep, vulnerable work that requires action on your part as a client, along with the therapist’s guidance. Therapy isn’t a quick fix—it’s about deep understanding and working through issues, which takes time but is ultimately rewarding.
In couples therapy, therapists sometimes have individual sessions with each partner. However, they typically won’t have more than three individual sessions with each person. If you want to see an individual therapist while also in couples therapy, we can schedule you with another therapist at ReSpark Group. Per ethical guidelines, it’s not recommended for a client to see their individual therapist for couples therapy beyond a couple of sessions, or vice versa.
At the start of therapy, we recommend weekly sessions to build a strong therapeutic relationship, which is key to a constructive experience. Once that bond is established, you and your therapist can discuss meeting less often if that better fits your schedule.

Friends can be great support systems, but they often have personal biases. Therapists provide a professional, unbiased perspective and are trained in guiding people through complex emotions, trauma, and personal growth.
Therapy can feel harder before it gets better. It’s a process of self-discovery and learning new personal and interpersonal skills. While some moments may be uncomfortable, consistent practice and commitment can lead to lasting, positive change.
At ReSpark Group, therapists practice unconditional positive regard, meaning they approach every client with compassion and care. If you have concerns about your therapeutic relationship, your therapist will welcome open communication to repair any issues. If needed, you can also reach out to our clinical manager to explore a better therapist match.

Absolutely. We offer therapy for both individuals and couples. If you attend as a couple, your therapist will likely conduct a few individual sessions as well.
It’s completely okay if a conflict arises during therapy. Your therapist is trained to help you navigate the situation in a productive and constructive way.
You’ll schedule your next appointment. Typically, sessions are weekly or biweekly. Occasionally, your therapist may give you homework based on your session.
No, couples therapists aim to benefit the relationship as a whole. Their role is to support all partners involved, not to take sides.
We offer out-of-network benefits. If you prefer to use insurance, you must choose a post-graduate therapist with fees starting at $135/hr. Upon request, we can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement.
We do not bill insurance directly. Most insurance plans do not cover couples counseling unless it is treating a diagnosed condition. If you need a low-cost option, you can explore our non-profit, ReSpark Foundation, which offers sliding-scale therapy starting at $25/hr for qualified clients facing sexual harm, trauma, abuse/neglect, or relationship issues. Learn more at ReSparkFoundation.org.
Insurance requires therapists to diagnose clients within the first session, which we prefer to avoid, as diagnoses can sometimes be stigmatizing or inaccurate early on. Many clients choose to pay privately to bypass the medical diagnosis system.
Your clothes will always be on. Sex therapy is a professional field of talk psychotherapy, not a physical practice.
No. Ethics strictly prohibit therapists from engaging in sexual relationships with clients.
