Unconsummated marriages
The Journal of Your Sexual Medicine explains an unconsummated marriage (UM) as “the failure to perform successful sexual intercourse at the beginning of marriage.” This is more common in relationships where sexual experiences do not occur until after marriage. Unsuccessful sexual intercourse can happen at any time for a variety of reasons, but the most common reasons are due to dysfunctions like vaginismus or erectile dysfunction (ED). At Respark, our therapists are highly skilled and trained in sexuality issues, including sexual dysfunction and unconsummated marriages.
