Online therapy has proven to be just as effective as in-person therapy, and most of our clients have found to even prefer online over in-person sessions for various reasons. Online therapy has shown to have many benefits for sex therapy specifically, as some of our therapists have mentioned that discussing our sexual issues can be a very vulnerable experience. Our therapist Vielca has found that being in the comfort of your own home can help to alleviate distress when talking about these issues. Most therapists do not receive any training in sexuality or sex therapy. Many sex therapists are not certified and do not have extensive training. At Respark, all of our therapists are either an AASECT (The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists) Certified Sex Therapist, or they are in training to become a Sexual Health Alliance Certified Sex Therapist. This means our therapists are obtaining 200+ hours of additional training/continuing education in sex and relationship counseling, supervision and experience treating issues.

Couples therapy works in various ways. Typically, you and your partner or partners join therapy together and meet with a couples therapist to engage in talk, psychotherapy together. As therapists, we see the couple(s) as our client, and our goal is to work with the couple(s) for the betterment of the couple as a whole. Couples face a variety of issues that lead them to engage in therapy together. These issues include communication issues, sexual desire discrepancy, sexual values work, couples values work, coping with infidelity or affairs, working to understand the parts of your partner(s) that you are feeling lost about, and general problems in the relationship(s) that are causing stress and anxiety. Your couple’s therapist will guide you both to develop skills needed to overcome the hardships in your relationship(s).
