ABOUT OUR TRAUMA THERAPY IN WASHINGTON
WHAT IS TRAUMA THERAPY?
Trauma therapy is working with a therapist who is empathetic to your feelings, understands your story, and encourages growth through your trauma. Trauma may affect your daily life and relationships. Whether you experienced something traumatic yesterday or decades ago, it is common to feel cornered by your trauma. Perhaps you don’t know where to start to heal or how to process the events that happened to you.
At Respark, we understand that remembering the event can often feel as bad as experiencing it and how new experiences can trigger similar distressing reactions. Because of this barrier, traumatic experiences can remain unresolved and cause ongoing disruptions in various aspects of your life, including how you feel about yourself, how you see the world, and how you relate to others, all of which Respark’s therapists are here to assist with.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND TRAUMA THERAPY?
HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED TRAUMA THERAPY?
Because trauma can be debilitating, trauma therapy can be valuable in helping you overcome any pain or distress you may experience. You may need trauma therapy if you are feeling overwhelmed by an experience that seemed small at the time but is now all-consuming. You may need trauma therapy if you experience flashbacks to any physical violence or accident, like a car crash. You may need trauma therapy if you witnessed or were a part of an abusive relationship as well as experienced unwanted sexual behavior or non-consensual contact.
Some treatment options for trauma include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), EMDR Therapy, Acceptance and Compassion therapy (ACT), somatic therapy, and/or other evidence-based treatments that confirm the empirical evidence of treating trauma.
Trauma therapy can help ease your symptoms and allow you will learn new skills and techniques to cope with the experience. When you have experienced a traumatic event or something that was unsettling, you may not be able to process information the same way you did in the past. You might then feel triggered more often and thus not be able to live your life as you desire.

EMDR stands for: Eye, Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing.
Some of Respark’s therapists are additionally trained in EMDR therapy. EMDR, which stands for Eye, Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing, is a form of therapy that can help reduce the effects of painful memories. EMDR therapy also aims to change any negative relationships you may have because of your traumatic experience.
