Kayla Helland LPC, CST

Hi, I'm Kayla, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) certified sex therapist. I specialize in sex therapy and therapy for adult individuals and couples/relationships. I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy when provided with a safe and affirming space to explore the issues that come with being human. It’s my goal to provide that space for you and to help you get back in touch with your authentic self.

My approach to therapy is fundamentally client-centered, embracing the idea that you are the expert on your own life. I believe in working collaboratively, ensuring you are actively involved in each step of our work together. Additionally, I incorporate a systemic perspective, recognizing that your experiences are deeply influenced by your relationships, community, and cultural background. This holistic view allows us to address not just the symptoms, but the root causes of your concerns. Therapy with me is a blend of compassion, humor, intuition, and a deep respect for your unique story and experiences. I tailor each session to meet your specific needs and circumstances, drawing on a range of therapeutic techniques to support your growth and healing. I am deeply committed to inclusivity and the affirmation of diverse identities and relationship structures.

My practice is a judgment-free zone that welcomes individuals and couples of all orientations, identities, and expressions. Here, you can expect to find understanding, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping you achieve your goals. Whether you are navigating challenges in intimacy, exploring your sexual identity, or seeking to enhance your relationship, I am here to support and empower you. Together, we can uncover the barriers to your fulfillment and work towards the meaningful, satisfying sexual and emotional life you deserve.

Therapy Style and Approach:

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and direct, with an emphasis on creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen and understood. I believe healing happens through a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, authenticity, and compassion, and I tailor treatment to each client's unique goals, strengths, and experiences rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
My work is grounded in attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and relational interventions. Whether I'm working with individuals or couples, I help clients identify unhelpful patterns, deepen self-awareness, strengthen communication, and develop practical tools that support lasting change. I strive to balance insight with action, empowering clients to build healthier relationships with themselves and others while moving toward a life that feels more connected, fulfilling, and aligned with their values.

Some Issues Kayla is Passionate about:

I am passionate about helping individuals and couples create deeper, more meaningful connections with themselves and the people they care about. I enjoy working with clients navigating relationship challenges, communication difficulties, intimacy concerns, desire discrepancies, and the impact of trauma on emotional
and physical closeness. I believe that many struggles stem from feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or stuck in repetitive patterns, and I value helping clients gain insight into those patterns while developing new ways of relating that foster trust, vulnerability, and resilience.

I also have a strong passion for supporting clients through trauma recovery, anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, and self-esteem challenges. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals and couples during the perinatal and postpartum periods, recognizing the profound emotional, relational, and identity shifts that can accompany pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Whether clients are navigating postpartum anxiety or depression, changes in identity, relationship adjustments, or the challenges of balancing parenthood and partnership, I strive to provide a compassionate space where they feel supportedand understood. My goal is to provide a warm, affirming, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions, challenging long-standing beliefs, and discovering new possibilities for growth. I value working with diverse individuals and relationships, including LGBTQIA+ clients, consensually non-monogamous (CNM/ENM) relationships, polyamorous relationships, and the kink/BDSM community, honoring each client's unique values, identities, and relationship structures. Ultimately, I am passionate about empowering clients to build healthier relationships, experience greater authenticity and intimacy, and create lives that feel more connected, fulfilling, and aligned with their values.
