Part 2 GTK Katherine Van Noy

Recently we interviewed all of our therapists and coaches at Respark about their personal endeavors, dreams and favorite things. Below is part two of one of our sex therapist sin Denver Colorado.

What are the top 3 items on your bucket list?

Personally, I would like to bungee jump off of something tall… I’m rather afraid of heights and so that seems an appropriate challenge. Before the pandemic I was scheduled to bungee job off of a Las Vegas hotel, but…  it can wait until 2021.

Professionally, I would like to complete a consensual non-monogamy (CNM) certification. CNM is not for everyone but I find as the divorce rate in America is now at 50%, infidelity and incompatible differences as the majority causes, and the reported percentage of infidelity on the rise, more couples are turning to this model in exploration. I’d very much like to assist individuals and couples exploring this journey.

I would also like to get certification for MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy, I’m watching the studies and trials, and reviewing the literature and believe this to be a promising therapy modality for those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Who is your sexual role model?

Ester Perel would be my current sexual role model. I love the way she considers all sides of a situation and encourages us to open our lens when addressing our own sexuality as well as within a relationship. She is forgiving, brilliant, brave and erotic.

What are your top 2 books that have influenced you, and why?

Childhood’s End will always be one of my most favorite books. I first read it as a teenager and have read it many times since. I think it’s a brilliant combination of science fiction and philosophy of human nature. I’m also very fond of Nature, Man and Woman. I love the philosophizing of intellect vs our physical bodies, sexuality and distrust of emotions.

What are your favorite podcasts?

Sluts and Scholars and Where should we begin?

Where is your next dream vacation?

Barcelona, always Barcelona.

What are 2 of the most important things that you do every day?

Meditate, walk, and tell my family with authenticity that I love them.

What is your favorite story to tell?

The story of when I first met my husband; I like the way I can still make him blush. We have vastly different recollections of that day, but as a romantic at heart, my version is superior in both hyperbole and passion, and therefore (as I like to tease him) … better.

What is your advice for someone wanting to become a couples and sex therapist?

You don’t know everything, and you never will. Each person is different, each couple and relationship are different. Listen, learn, and help.
